Day 38 - Chicago Old Town

We ventured beyond the downtown area as we wanted to go to an REI outdoor store. The red line subway was efficient but tawdry. After looking at some backpacks and checking prices back home we left empty handed. The pack we decided on costs US$120 plus 10.25% tax which is equivalent to AUD$191. I ordered the same pack from Wildearth on sale for $130 and supported an Australian business!

Rather than return to the subway station we decided to walk to Old Town. Our first stop was a French bakery in need of redecoration but which served wonderful breads. Unfortunately big machines were grinding off the road surface so it was dusty walking along Wells Street.

There is an historic neighbourhood in Chicago called the Gold Coast, next to Old Town. We noticed the Bentley showroom as one opened recently up the road from home  in our Gold Coast.

Without intending to we walked more than 11kms today. Back at our hotel we packed most of our things as tomorrow night we catch the train from Chicago to Albany.
