Day 39 - Last Day in Chicago

This morning a series of 18 bridge openings were scheduled to start at 9.30am. This is a regular event occurring several times in the fall to allow boats on the lake to move up the river ready for winter. There was a late start at Lakeshore Drive before one side of the two storey bridge lifted. Today only one yacht passed through the opening.

When this bridge is lowered the yellow steel bars are slid across to lock the two sections of the bridge together. Drivers impatient to resume their journey over the bridge soon started blasting their horns. The skipper of the yacht was caught by the hourly fountain.

Our afternoon was spent at the Chicago Art Institute. We skipped some areas but others were good.

After pizza and salad at the Italian restaurant next to our hotel, we caught a cab to Union Station for the overnight train to Albany.
