Day 9 - Culture Day in Washington

It was hot today so we hid inside museums and the National Art Gallery. First stop was the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History.

There were too many kids and long queues for lunch so we went to the Art Gallery Sculpture
Garden and had lunch at the Pavillion Café. The duck ramp caught my attention.

This squirrel was
looking for lunch in the trash can.

The National Art Gallery is an amazing building. While there is lots of marble and granite, this timberwork is special.

This is the underground walkway linking the east and west buildings of the Art Gallery.

Here are a couple of my favourites from the collection Green Marilyn by Andy Warhol, Mondrian abstract, and Japanese zodiac screens.

Twice we saw children touch exhibits. A security officer yelled at an Asian girl when she touched a 17th century painting. Two other young European tourists were with their parents when they touched a white marble statue. The parents did not stop them. There are very few barricades to stop people from being able to reach these priceless exhibits.
